You must visit this beautiful hotel in Devon!

You know when somewhere’s so good you kind of don’t want to tell people about it… because you’re low-key terrified they’ll all start going and nick your favourite seat?

I first fell in love with The Pig at Gittisham when I lived in Honiton. I remember when the old hotel down the road was being renovated and it finally reopened as The Pig – I popped along on the opening day and honestly I nearly had tears in my eyes. It was so beautiful!

It had been renovated so beautifully, and was full of gorgeous people wafting around in sun hats, floaty dresses, and sunglasses – a crowd that wouldn’t look out of place in the Sunday Times Style section. I just sat there thinking: this is absolute heaven!

And now? It’s a firm favourite. I go there for client meetings, friend catch-ups, or even just for a solo hour with a coffee and my laptop. It’s technically a hotel, but it’s open to non-residents, so you can just rock up, pick a seat, and soak it all in.

Cosy, Classy, and No Tidy-Up Required

The thing I love most? It manages to feel luxury without being intimidating. The staff are friendly, the fire’s nearly always on (yes, even in the summer), and you can choose from three different lounges to sit in – all full of comfy chairs and soft lighting.

One minute I’m working from home with a messy bun, yesterday’s leggings, and various unmentionables drying on the radiator… and the next, I’m sat fireside at The Pig feeling effortlessly put together, sipping my latte like a woman who has her life sorted, no tidying required. Bliss.

But I probably shouldn’t be telling you all this, because now you’ll go and steal my seat by the fire – and if you do, you’d better invite me to sit with you, okay? Haha.

A Few Handy Tips Before You Go

  • You don’t need to book for coffee, just show up and sit wherever you like in the lounges.
  • Let the team at the bar know you’re there, and they’ll come and take your order.
  • A little heads-up: lattes are about £5 each, so maybe don’t go wild unless you’re embracing your boujie CEO era.
  • You’re paying for the location and the experience, and honestly, it’s worth it.

Bonus Bits to Explore

  • The Georgian Kitchen – A stunning private meeting room you can hire which was originally the Georgian kitchen, with all the original pots and pans. Perfect for more private client sessions or small group days.
  • The Folly – A super cute little outdoor building in the gardens. In the summer, they open it up for wood-fired pizza (yes please), and it’s such a gorgeous, relaxed spot.
  • The Gardens – Beautifully kept and full of the ingredients they actually use in the restaurant – it’s like walking through a living menu.
  • The Restaurant – If you want to treat a client to lunch rather than just a coffee (lucky them!), the food is incredible. It’s all local, seasonal, and beautifully done.

The Pig is one of those places that just gets it right. It strikes that perfect balance – relaxed but refined, welcoming but still a little bit wow. Whether you’re there for a quick coffee or a long lunch, it leaves a lasting impression – on your clients and on you. So much nicer than shouting over a glitchy Zoom call or meeting in some beige, soulless corporate hotel that says absolutely nothing about you or your brand.

If you’re local (or even just visiting Devon), it’s 100% worth popping in. Just don’t blame me when it becomes your new favourite spot too!
