Creative Photo Ideas for Autumn/Fall Brand Photoshoots

Ah, autumn and fall – the most glorious season for brand photoshoots! The light is golden, the colours are rich and it’s a great excuse to wear oversized cosy sweaters that hide a multitude of wobbly bits (c’mon now, I know it’s not just me!).

It’s the perfect time for a set of new headshots – before the chaos of Christmas and while everyone’s still scrolling for fresh inspiration. Updating your photos now means your website, social media and LinkedIn will feel current all winter long (and yes, it’s a great way to get ahead and feel uber organised for your marketing going into the new year).

However, planning beautiful brand photos is one thing… knowing what to do with your hands while posing for them is another! Between trying to flash a natural smile, making sure your tripod doesn’t tip over in the wind and avoiding slipping in some dubious looking mud, it’s enough to make you break open the mulled wine early.

That’s why I’m sharing my favourite creative poses for autumn brand photoshoots – all selfie-tested, business-friendly and guaranteed to make you look confident, not contorted, so you can relax and just copy these ideas, panic free.

And by the way, these shots? Every single one was a DIY selfie from my London autumn shoot adventure – tripod, kids, and pumpkin-spiced, crowd-weaving determination included. And at the end I will show you how you can take your own DIY brand photos like these too!

1. Choose Locations That Already Feel Autumnal

Let’s be honest, I am not willing to crawl around in cold muddy fields pretending to frolic and living my best life for any photoshoot. Between getting dirty, having wet knees and trying to stay photo-ready, no one has time for that.

The trick is to swan in and find places that already look like autumn has arrived. I planned a day wandering around London and picked spots that looked magical without any effort on my part. Thank you London!

  • Little Venice – colourful canal boats, golden trees and calm reflections that makes it look like you’re living your best chilled work/life balance, not wrestling with a tripod that keeps trying to fall in the water.
  • La Ville Restaurant – lovely for indoor coffee shots with a beautiful view of the canal (it sits right across it!) plenty of light (and no chance of accidentally getting a wet bum).
  • Regent’s Park, Lion Vase area – classic benches, crisp leaves and that dreamy “autumn in a rom-com” atmosphere.
  • Clifton Garden Centre – rustic wood, white benches and lots of garden ornaments throughout the cafe that adds instant depth to your photos.
  • Elizabeth Street, Belgravia – gorgeous shop fronts and floral displays. My favourite was outside Pepa London with all the cosy autumn colours. But also you can find beautiful cafes like TomTom and Peggy Porschen which look stunning (if you can get a space as they are incredibly popular!).
  • The Onion Garden Café – twinkly lights, pumpkins and the kind of homely ambience that makes you want to move in and never leave.

If you’re not near London, find places that already do the decorating for you. Think garden centres, cafés with outdoor seating or parks that turn golden in October. I find a lot of great places by looking on instagram. You’ll save time, stay clean and get that stunning autumnal look without any leaf arranging.

2. Use your Setting as Your Prop

When you’re not sure what to do with your hands, let the setting do the work.

  • Sit on a bench and rest your arm casually on the back, like in my Regent’s Park shot above.
  • Hold a coffee cup or book on a café table to give your hands a job.
  • Lightly touch your face or neckline for a soft, flattering pose.
  • Lean on railings or window ledges to break up your posture and look more relaxed.

Basically, make it look like you’re doing something, even if you’re just pretending to sip lukewarm coffee between takes. It’s the difference between “posed” and “professional but natural”.

3. Add Movement (Without Actually Moving)

Those “effortless walking” photos you see on Instagram? Most of them are carefully staged. For my shot outside Pepa London in Belgravia, I wasn’t striding anywhere – I just shuffled a few inches back and forth. It gives your body that sense of flow without risking an outtake where you’re mid-step and mid-gurn. I’ve had plenty of those!!

A gentle turn or looking over your shoulder adds life to your photos too. My bench shot in Regent’s Park used this trick, and it instantly felt more natural.

If you’re working solo, set your phone on self-timer or use a remote. Move a little, pause a lot and don’t worry if you feel silly – everyone around you is probably too busy filming TikToks to notice anyway.

4. Play With Angles (Because Straight On Is Boring)

The easiest way to upgrade your photos is to change your angle. If your pictures look flat or stiff, it’s probably because you’re facing the camera head-on.

  • Turn your chair to the side and lean back slightly.
  • Sit diagonally instead of straight-on to create shape.
  • Try looking slightly down or off to the side for a softer feel.

My Onion Garden shot with the fairy lights behind probably looked odd while I was posing smiling into the distance imagining a handsome stranger walking past – but it was perfect on camera. That’s the secret – if it feels a little weird, you’re probably doing it right.

5. Keep It Real (And Laugh About It)

Every image in this post is a selfie. I had my kids along to help with bags and keep an eye on my phone (London innit!?), but otherwise, it was just me, a tripod and all my best moves getting busted. London is already full of tourists taking photos plus all the locals are keeping their head down trying to get to their next destination as quickly as possible, so if you’re feeling self conscious – trust me – no one will bat an eyelid!

You don’t need a full production team to get brand photos that feel professional and authentic. The goal isn’t perfection – it’s connecting with your audience/potential clients, and having some fun along the way!

If a gust of wind ruins your hair or a pigeon photobombs your shot, laugh and keep going. That’s the energy that makes your photos genuine and beautiful!

Bonus: Autumn Shoot Survival Tips

  • Arrive at your favourite location as early as possible. The later it gets in the day, the busier it will be.
  • Keep a spare pair of shoes in your bag. I wore boots for walking and then slipped heels on for photos.
  • Have a think what poses you want to capture before you get there. Being prepared will help stop that frozen deer in headlights feeling that overcomes us all once the camera app opens.
  • If you’re going somewhere touristy it’s best to take a friend along with you who can keep an eye on your phone while you’re taking photos, so it doesn’t get swiped!

You can absolutely create your own stunning autumn brand photoshoot that feels warm, stylish and cosy – no mud, no awkward hands and no stress. Bring on the pumpkin spice lattes and apple cake baby!
